Мне ответила тетя (или дядя), которая писала статью про генетику крыс и упоминала трехцветных крыс. Привожу текст письма:
My source was the now defunct Rodentfancy.com for most of my genetic info.
I was also relying on some forum posts from people with tricolors who tried
to reproduce them through line breeding with no success. There were other
sites, but I wrote it all down almost 5 years ago, and many of those places
don't exist anymore... The phenomenon of non-genetic mosaics is known in
other species, so is a likely cause, since the color has not yet been
successfully reproduced through deliberate breeding.
In mice, tricolors are related to agouti (specifically brindle) genes, but
no brindle gene is known in rats. Mice and rats are paralleled in many
genetics, so a similar mutation could theoretically occur.
In other animals, tricolors are the result of red genes on one X chromosome,
and the mosaic effect is caused by bar bodies (random disabling of one X
chromosome) in females. No such "red" mutation is known in rats at the
moment. In addition to that, the pattern of a "tortie" is very random and
not really geneic in nature (identical twin calicos will have different
patterns to their colors), so it might be possible that most rats have a
failsafe to prevent the mosaic effect (possibly a second mutation disrupts
this?, maybe tricolor is polygenetic in rats?)
A. Gangi, the owner of rondentfancy, found her line of "sand" colored rats
(I can't remember but I think they were related to a smoke mutation she was
working with...) was throwing tricolors, but her site has vanised, so I
don't know what she found out about it. Your rat looks a good bit like the
one she showed pictures of a few years ago.
Mosaics/tricolors are fascinating. It would be fabulous if your rat passes
this color! At the moment, there is no record of a true hereditary
tricolor, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Good luck, and definitely
let me know if the color passes!
